San Diego 99s Flight Scholarship Program


The San Diego Chapter of the International Women Pilots Organization, aka The "99s", are offering these scholarships for flight training:

Student Pilot Flight Training Scholarship

One $1,000 award to help fund Private Pilot training. Applicant must (1) be a female San Diego County resident, (2) have passed the written test, (3) have a current student medical, and (4) soloed. There is a 90 day limit to apply funds towards training.
 
The completed Student Pilot Application must be postmarked no later than September 30th.
   
 
Darlene Kelly Advanced Certificate/Rating
Flight Training Scholarships

 
One $2,000 award to help fund training for the Instrument, Commercial, Multi-Engine, or any Flight Instructor certificate. Applicant must (1) be a female San Diego County resident, (2) have a current medical, and (3) have a private pilot license. There is a 90 day limit to apply funds towards training.
 
The completed Advanced Ratings/Licenses Application must be postmarked no later than December 31st.
 
Marian R. DeLano Memorial Scholarship

A $1,000 award to help fund flight training.  Applicant must (1) be a female, (2) have solo sign-off and written test passed for private pilot license, or a FWP and (3) be a member of a 99s chapter in the Southwest Section (CA, AZ, NV, UT, HI).  The scholarship is good for one rating or certificate only. Air Transport Rating not eligible. There is a 90 day limit to apply funds towards training.
 
The completed application must be postmarked by January 31st.
  
Dottie Sanders Memorial Flight Scholarship

A $1,000 award to help fund flight training.  Applicant must (1) be a female, (2) reside in San Diego, Riverside or Imperial counties, (3) have passed written and soloed OR be a "Future Woman Pilot" member of any local chapter, (4) have a current student medical for PPL award OR if for an advanced rating/certificate must have Private certificate. Funds may be used to help fund Private Pilot training for any FWP member of the Ninety Nines, OR if a certified pilot applicant, may be used to fund training for the Instrument, Commercial, Multi Engine, or any Flight Instructor certificates. There is a 90 day limit to apply funds towards training.
 
The completed application must be postmarked by April 1st. Awarded on April 23rd.

Flight Scholarships from the Ninety-Nines, Inc

Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships

Funds the cost of an entire advanced pilot certificate or rating (including aircraft type ratings i.e. B737)

The Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund, founded in 1940, is The Ninety-Nines' premier scholarship program for deserving 99s members to complete advanced training and education in aviation and aerospace.

For over six decades the 99s have provided fully paid scholarships to help women pilots complete pilot certificates ranging Commercial to CFI and ATP; ratings such as instrument, multi-engine, and jet type ratings; technical training such as A & P certificate; and college education for degrees in aviation, including Bachelors, Masters, and PhDs.

Each year, The Ninety-Nines award several Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships to qualified members for advanced flight training or courses in specialized branches of aviation including additional pilot certificates and ratings, jet type ratings, college degrees, and technical training. Among other eligibility requirements, the applicant must be a member of The Ninety-Nines for at least one year.

Applicants should refer to information and application forms on the 99s International Web site and contact their Chapter AE Scholarship Chairmen.

The Associate Member (student pilot) Awards
Provides up to $1500 toward completion of the Recreational Pilot, Sport Pilot, or Private Pilot certificate, or non-U.S. equivalent, in any aircraft.

To qualify you must:
  • Be an Associate Member of the Ninety-Nines, Inc.
  • Hold a current medical certificate required for the pilot certificate sought
  • Have proof of passing the Private Pilot Written Test
  • Have soloed

If the training is to occur outside the USA, you will need to have the equivalent requirements for the country where the training will occur.

Coyote Country 99s Flight Scholarships - $500 & $1,000

The 2009 Pam Van Der Linden Memorial Scholarship and the Coyote99s 20th Anniversary Flight Scholarship. Both are for advanced ratings and one application makes you eligible for both scholarships. Criteria: Female pilot training in Southern California area. Info- Coyote Country 99s

Santa Barbara 99s: Joan Steinberger Aviation Scholarship

One for a student pilot and one for a certificated pilot to complete an advanced rating. Sometimes scholarships might be divided between candidates. Award may be up to $2,500 but may not be awarded every year if funds are low.

S.D. Antique Aircraft Association Flight Scholarship
An annual award for $1,000 to assist a male OR female student or certificated pilot pay for training. Applicant requirements include:
  • A minimum of 10 hours logged
  • Hold at least a 3rd class medical
  • Age 16-26 years

The Leo March Aviation Scholarship
Given by Donna March in memory of her husband. The amount for 2009 is $1,500. May not be given annually afterwards. For men OR women. Applicants must be at least 16 with a medical certificate and submit a 500 word essay on your goals in aviation or what flying means to you. Special consideration is given to local pilots, notably those who fly out of KSEE as that is where Leo was based.

Comm 1 Radio Aviation Scholarship
A $1,000 award to assist in pursuing a flying career. In addition to demonstrating an interest in pursuing a career in aviation, scholarship applicants will be asked to submit a brief 75-word essay that examines the financial and practical benefits of using interactive radio communications training as an integrated part of a flight training curriculum. Sean DeRosier Memorial Aerobatic Training Scholarship
Scholarship amount: $1,500. The recipient must be male or female between the ages of 17 and 31, wishing to pursue aerobatic flight training or and A&P license. Applicants for an aerobatic training track must have already earned at least private pilot certification. Due July 1st. Charlie Hillard Memorial Scholarship

Jan Jones Memorial Scholarship
$2,000 award. Recipient must be a female holding a private pilot certificate, wishing to pursue aerobatic flight training. Applications due by July 1st.

$2,000 offered by the members and sponsors of Women in Corporate Aviation to any man or woman pursuing professional development and/or career advancement in any job classification of corporate/business aviation.
